Scott Aronofsky: Paragon Park Memories

By Cindy Bittker

Scott Aronofsky's first visit to Nantasket Beach was when he was six months old. His grandmother rented a cottage at 4 Hillside Road each summer from Memorial Day to Labor Day. "As kids, we all used to stay there for the month of August. My grandmother loved it there, and now I also share the same love of the beach and that tiny little seaside community." Scott is now 43 living in Nashua, NH and comes back to Nantasket Beach as often as he can. He is also is the person behind the website, paragonparkmemories.com, which he dedicated to "the lady who created my favorite memories, Nana, Mary Cooke."

Asked why he started this website, Scott says, "I originally was doing a website for a small independent professional wrestling organization out of North Andover, Mass., and one day decided it might be fun to put something together about Paragon Park." Ironically the wrestling website contained a link to the professional wrestler "Crusher Casey" who had a connection to this area. "I was also doing some online searches for anything related to Paragon Park and was disappointed to find very little. So I decided to put a little more effort into the Paragon Park Memories website. It became more popular than the wrestling website. I was getting tons of emails almost daily from people (all around the same age, currently in their 40's and 50's) asking me for more info. Thus, paragonparkmemories was born."

"One day I just sat down and started typing. The first three or four parts of my "memories" story came in about 45 minutes. People were asking for more almost every day, and I was amazed. I am a collector of all things related to Paragon Park, and was lucky enough to come across Bruce Wescott, a former Hull Postmaster, who is/was friends of the Stone family. Mr Wescott was kind enough to mail me a package of Paragon memorabilia which to me is absolutely priceless. I just wanted to put the site together for those of us who share the memories."

My brother Rick, who is now 50, often talked about making a documentary on the park, yet he hasn't done it. I managed to beat him to it kind of with my site, although its not a film, it attracted a lot of attention, so if he ever does finally do it, he's got plenty of resources!
